Take your coasteering to the next level at Start Point. Great intermediate level coasteering that’s perfect for anyone feeling adventurous.
Whether you’re looking to challenge yourself or just want to enjoy a new, exciting experience, our intermediate coasteering adventure is an experience you won’t forget. Book now and get ready to explore a coastline like never before!
Situated at the most South Easterly part of South Devon, Start Point is fantastic intermediate coasteering for any thrill seeker. With huge amounts to explore along this rugged session of coastline, it’s the perfect mixture of mental and physical challenges.
Explore sea caves, rock formations curved by mother nature. Swim in wild sea and waves, scramble over and under rocks. Follow the instructors as they take you through channels that lead to epic jumps ranging from 1- 8 meters. If that’s not enough Start Point offers an abundance of seals (they love this place).
Book NowCoasteering is coastal-based, adrenaline fuelled challenge. Put simply, coasteering is about exploring the coastline by traversing rocks, jumping from cliffs and ledges, wild swimming through swell and channels, plus much more.
The meeting point is in Start Point car park. If driving from Kingsbridge or Torcross along the A379, head to Stokenham Village and take the Southern exit on the small roundabout. Keep driving the single road for 20 minutes following signs for Start Point passing through Widdicombe and then Bickerton.
Follow this link for directions Start Point car park.
The car park is cash only (£4) and also offers the luxury of a portable toliet, although we cannot garentee toliet paper! We advise leaving plenty of travle time due to this locations isolation.
Do I need to know how to swim to go coasteering?
We recommend that you are competent in the water with the ability to swim unadded in a pool or open water. Because you’ll be covered from head to toe in neoprene and have a high-quality buoyancy aid, you’ll float really well. If you dont feel confident with your swimming ability why not try Salcombe Coasteering first?
What shoes should I wear coasteering?
We highly recommend that you bring a pair of trainers/walking shoes and that they have laces and a good sole and they are not completely ruined already. Because of the nature of the environment, we’ll be traversing over uneven rocky ground which is sometimes slippery, a good pair of trainers or walking shoes will provide the best stability for these conditions. Neoprene rock shoes without laces or pull cords are not recommended.
What if the weather is too bad on the day?
We will always endeavour to give you as much warning as possible, days in advance if we think the weather is going to turn against us on the day. Should we have to cancel on the day due to bad weather, we can offer to either reschedule you for another day, offer a gift voucher, or provide a full refund.
Do I have to do any of the jumps?
In a nutshell, no! The big attraction of coasteering is definitely the jumping aspect, however, there is so much more to explore with coasteering than just the jumping. We don’t pressure anyone into doing anything they don’t want to, it’s all challenge by choice, as we like to say, and jumping is always optional.
How physical is the Start Point Experience?
The Start Point Coasteering journey covers 2.5km starting in Start Point car park and finishing in the same place. Roughly 1km is spent coasteering (jumping, swimming, scrambling, and rock hopping) The rest of the journey comprises mostly light up and down hill walking, with one section of steeper gradient towards the end.
Start Point car park and facilities
Start Point is a privatly owned car park and is managed by a team of staff during the day. Only cash is accepted (£4) there is a portable toliet avalible during the day.
Can I wear my own wetsuit?
Yes, absolutely you can. However, it must be a long sleeve wetsuit and ideally 5mm, especially if its for a child.
Can I bring a GoPro?
Yes, be all means. However, Adventure South are not responsible for it at any point. We recommend a chest harness, and not jumping with it in your hand or attached to you.
If you love the sound of coasteering, but want to turn the adrenaline up a few levels, check out our Gara Rock Coasteering Experience. With bigger jumps, more swell and dramatic coastline, it’s the perfect for adult groups and older children.
"Refreshing, invigorating and fun. Our guides were brilliant, kids loved jumping off the rocks and a few fears were conquered. Really recommend this activity."

"This was the best thing we did all week with our two children (aged 10 and 12). Corey and Connor were both fantastic hosts, putting everyone at ease. They made it fun and exciting. Our children wanted us to rebook it as soon as it was over. We will definitely be back!"

"Slightly scarier & colder than I imagined, but amazing experience and we were definitely in safe hands.. It was great to see the coastline from a different perspective and learn a little history too. Thanks again"
