Learning to paddleboard is a fun way to explore beautiful areas whilst keeping you safe on the water. By taking part in our paddleboarding lessons, you will learn techniques to have you standing up with confidence.

Safety is our number one priority; we will cover advice on tidal movements, weather conditions, limitations, and suitable equipment for paddleboarding, including a fun rescue practice.

If you’re thinking about heading on the water with a paddleboard but might not have the experience or confidence, then a lesson is the best thing you’ll ever do to feel safe and knowledgeable on the water.

BSUPA “Ready to Ride”

Being certified under the BSUPA ‘Ready to Ride’ scheme means you will receive a lesson completion card from Adventure South, which you can then use to access other courses and tours that require a ready to ride course completion. It is also a great way to prove your competency on the water when hiring equipment from water sports providers and BSUPA schools.

Essentials

Where to meet

North Sands car park, Salcombe, next to the Winking Prawn.

Arrive at the entrance to the car park where you’ll find a member of the Adventure South team waiting. The car park is pay and display; three hours will be plenty of time.

Packing

What to bring

We will provide you with all the equipment you need to get you on the water; you’ll just need to bring the following:

  • Change of clothes
  • Something to wear under a wetsuit
  • Water
  • Snacks
  • Suncream
  • Sunglasses
  • Good balance!

Test

SUP Hire

Should you wish, once you have completed your lesson you will be able to hire a paddleboard and wetsuit for the day for half price. You can hire the board and suit whenever you like whether it’s the same day or the next time you are in the area.

Upon completion of your lesson you will be able to take one of our Paddleboard Tours, either at North Sands or Aveton Gifford (the River Avon) and receive a 10% discount.

Yes, absolutely.

Paddleboarding is meant to be a relaxed water activity, and we want to keep it that way. If you need a break then there are plenty of places on both lessons to jump off or sit down at any point.

Yes, but we don’t take any responsibility for it.

All participants must be at least 8 years old. Younger participants must be competent swimmers with previous paddle boarding experience.

The BSUPA (British Stand Up Paddleboard Assocciation) are a training and standards organistion dedicated to promoting a culture of safety within the SUP industry.

We’d love to be able to guarantee the weather, but unfortunately, we can’t. As adventure providers we are constantly monitoring the weather conditions and sea states in order to deliver the most professional and safe trip possible. If it looks like the weather is against us on the day, we’ll let you know a day or two in advance. If on the day we have to cancel due to bad weather, we offer a full refund or the chance to reschedule. But hopefully the sun will always shine!
