Explore some of the UK's most beautiful coastline and countryside with our River Avon and Salcombe paddleboard tours.
A paddleboarder’s dream, our Salcombe SUP tour starts at North Sands with it’s wide, shallow beach and sheltered coves. The perfect place for paddleboard beginners to learn the basics, we’ll get your confidence up before setting off along the estuary to explore some of Salcombe’s best features at your own pace.
Our guided paddleboard tours last just over an hour and, with our expert tuition, are an essential thing to do in Salcombe this summer.
Book NowOn a Salcombe paddleboard tour, we’ll provide you with the best equipment including a JOBE board, SOLA wetsuit and Nookie bouyancy aid. After a safety briefing on the beach, we’ll run through the basics of standing and paddling before heading for the water. We’ll move together as a group, sticking close to the shore and supporting you all the way.
Glide down the River Avon and explore this stunning stretch of rural Devon where river becomes estuary and meanders its way to Bantham Beach. Peaceful and relaxing, there’s no better way to enjoy this glorious stretch of waterway that’s teeming with wildlife. We’ll even stop for refreshments and some photos before heading back.
Beginners welcome, though ideally some experience is recommended so you may wish to consider a private session beforehand if this is your first time paddleboarding.
Book NowOur River Avon Tour starts at the car park in Aveton Gifford, next to the roundabout and at the head of the estuary. After kitting up and working through the safety briefing, we’ll cover some paddleboarding basics before heading for the water.
Who can do this activity?
Our paddleboard tours are open to all levels and abilities. Each tour begins with a safety briefing and some basic tuition on land before we head to the water. If you have never paddleboarded before, then you might enjoy the experience more having had some private tuition beforehand.
What do I need to bring?
Are the paddleboard tours affected by tides?
Our River Avon tour is tide dependent and therefore scheduled times cannot be adjusted. Our Salcombe tours, while also tidal dependent are more flexible with a backup location a couple of miles away which is perfect if the swell in North Sands gets too rough.
Can we book as a family?
Yes, private family tours are available to book at both destinations. Our standard family price is based on four people, but you can add more at an additional cost to either tour. Book one of our private slots online or call for additional times and dates.
Where do we meet?
Can I wear my own wetsuit?
Yes, absolutely you can.
Do I need any paddleboarding experience?
If you are a complete beginner and have never paddleboarded before then we recommend having a one-on-one lesson with us privately beforehand. One to one lessons are £40 and can be arranged by contacting us directly.
Will we be going out to sea?
No, neither of our tours head out to sea.
How tiring are the tours?
Paddleboarding is meant to be a relaxed water activity, and we want to keep it that way. If you need a break then there are plenty of places on both tours to jump off or sit down at any point.
Can I bring a camera?
Yes, but we can’t take responsibility for it.
What is the minimum age for paddleboard tours?
All participants must be at least 12 years old. Younger participants must be competent swimmers with previous paddle boarding experience.
What happens if we are late?
We understand things can happen and people can run late. We can wait up to 15 minutes past the activity meeting time before we begin, after that your lateness may impact other customers’ experience. Please aim to arrive 15 minutes early for any of our activities.
What if the weather is bad on the day?
Paddleboarding relies heavily on the weather conditions being just right. We constantly monitor weather forecasts and will always give plenty of warning if we have to cancel. If we do have to cancel then we offer a full refund or the chance to reschedule.
"I hired 2 x paddleboards for me and my husband. The service received from Adventure South was fantastic. We both thoroughly enjoyed paddle boarding for the first. We are looking forward to booking our next adventure with ‘Adventure South’!"

"Used Adventure South to hire paddleboards in Salcombe originally, good communication and were flexible about pick up / drop off locations also reasonably priced. Chris was very helpful. Will definitely use these two local guys when back in the area."
