Find out moreWhere are the best places to paddleboard in South Devon?
South Devon has some of the finest coastal areas waiting to be explored by paddleboard or kayak. We make it easy by delivering straight to you, giving you the freedom to explore when and where you like. Some easy to access places to start your SUP adventure include Hope Cove, South Milton Sands, Thurlestone, North Sands, Bantham, Salcombe and Kingsbridge (tide dependent). All of these destinations are easy to access with car packs and facilities close by. If you’d like any more advice on where to start, tide times or even hidden spots to discover, then please don’t hesitate to call, email, or check our blog for places to paddleboard.
Is there anywhere I should avoid paddleboarding?
We strongly recommend avoiding Whitestand Pontoon and Normandy Pontoon in Salcombe Harbour for launching and recovering for at any time. We also recommend not paddling in the main part of Salcombe Estuary where most of the commercial boats are moored. During the summer, boat traffic can be especially busy and it’s best to stick close to the shores at all times and avoid boat lanes. In Kingsbridge, you’ll be safe to paddle within three hours either side of high-tide, beyond that you may be stuck with a muddy walk back to the slipway.
Can I hire a paddleboard even if I’ve never done it before?
Yes, of course you can. However, we highly recommend not going alone and checking tide times and weather conditions before you set off. While you learn the ropes, stay close to the shore and preferably somewhere sheltered like Hope Cove or South Sands. And always wear a buoyancy aid. For first timers, we highly recommend a one-to-one lesson to learn the basics before setting off on your own.
How far do you travel to deliver paddleboards?
We deliver paddleboards to holiday destinations throughout the South Hams. If you are based anywhere between Bantham and Torcross then we can deliver boards to you.
Where do you collect the paddleboards from?
We’ll collect the paddleboards from the same place that we dropped them off, as agreed with you at the time of hire.
How do I make payment?
Once the availability of your board has been confirmed by Adventure South, payments are made over the phone or via a payment link sent to you by email. Payments must be processed before delivery of the boards is made.
How does the deposit system work?
Deposits are added to the total cost of your hire, each board requires a deposit. Once you return your board(s) they will be properly inspected by an Adventure South team member for damage or missing parts, once cleared we’ll return your deposit within two days.

"Used Adventure South to hire paddleboards in Salcombe originally, good communication and were flexible about pick up / drop off locations also reasonably priced. Chris was very helpful. Will definitely use these two local guys when back in the area."
